Scenario: PHEV

The "best of both worlds" claim. Time to fact-check it.

What to Observe First

During Walkaround (first 5 minutes)
  • Find the charging port — different location than ICE fuel filler usually
  • Check for "PHEV" or "Plug-in" badging
  • Note the fuel tank size — often smaller than ICE version to make room for battery
  • Look for EV-only range display in the cluster
  • Check if there's a charging cable in the boot

Film Priority

Must-Film PHEV Shots
  • Charging port + cable — show you CAN plug it in. Unlike regular hybrid.
  • EV range display — "X km on battery." This is the key number.
  • Mode comparison drive — film EV mode segment, then hybrid mode segment. Contrast is the story.
  • Fuel + charge door — if they’re separate, show both. “Two ways to fuel this car.”

Talking Points

PHEV. Plug-in Hybrid. You can charge it, but it also has a gas engine. Official EV range: [X] km. If you charge every night, you can commute daily without a single drop of fuel.

PHEV value prop — the commuter dream scenario.

But here's the thing: if the battery is empty, this becomes a [X]-ton car with a [Y]cc engine. Fuel economy jumps straight to [Z] L/100km. Big difference.

The PHEV paradox — charged vs uncharged efficiency.

The real question: will you actually plug it in? Because if you will not, you are just driving a heavier, thirstier hybrid.

The uncomfortable truth — PHEVs only work if you charge.

Common Traps

Verdict Template

"This PHEV works if you have a charger at home and your commute is [X] km. If that fits, this is an EV that doesn't make you anxious. If you don't want the hassle of charging, get a regular hybrid."
